INTRODUCTION

The Libeccio recorder ensemble takes its name from an Italian wind that is sometimes strong and tumultuous in winter, sometimes gentle in summer, perfectly evoking the contrasts so characteristic of Renaissance music.

The Ensemble Libeccio uses a historical approach to explore the Italian, French, English, Spanish and German repertoires, rendering them in an intimate setting with subtle variations in tone and tessitura. Depending on the programme, a singer or other instrumentalists are sometimes invited to join in.

The quartet was founded in 2015 by Constanze Chmiel, Dorothée Bacher, Féodora Diakoff and Estelle Thévenoz, four recorder players from the Early Music Department of the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève, trained in the class of recorder player and conductor Gabriel Garrido. Winners of the competition organised to celebrate the OSR’s centenary in December 2018, the consort performs regularly on a variety of occasions, keen to share their passion and bring the early music repertoire to as many people as possible.
